Lead Mechanical Design Engineer
As a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer at Honeywell, you will be a key contributor to the design and development of cutting‑edge mechanical solutions. You will design products to meet customer needs, product quality, manufacturability, new product development, prototype builds, testing, and may serve as project manager for smaller development projects. Responsibilities
Lead the technical aspects of mechanical engineering on various projects by reviewing technical deliverables, schedule and quality of work done by junior engineers. Assign piping work packages to local and global junior engineers and keep track of on budget completion of assignments. Responsible for keeping UOP standard specifications, procedures, templates, checklist, and other infrastructure updated on regular basis to comply code changes and ISO requirements. Manage third party engineering companies’ deliverables to be on schedule, under budget and per UOP quality standards. Participate in P&ID and 3D model review meetings and make contributions to the project's design in terms of cost saving and design optimization. Generate piping specifications for various types of systems and product lines such as MPGF, flare, thermal oxidizers, Gas Processing, LNG Pre‑treatment, Upcycle -STS plants and packaged systems. Incorporate applicable code and customer requirements to produce a complete technical definition of the equipment. Assume the technical liaison role with various outside piping suppliers. Coordinate with suppliers throughout the fabrication phase of the project. Prepare material/purchase requisitions for various equipment. Technical evaluation of bids and participate in the supplier selection process. Coordinate with suppliers throughout the fabrication phase of the projects. Review supplier designs against licensor requirements, code requirements, and customer requirements. Review Pipeline list, manual valve list, specialty items list, Tie‑point list etc. Review and analyse piping system using CAESAR II analysis software and generating stress analysis reports. Visit shops for kickoff meetings, critical inspections, provide feedback to improve future designs. Work closely with all members of the project team including instrument, electrical, process, and structural designers, purchasing personnel, and project managers. Independently carry out responsible and varied engineering / technical assignments using standard methods and procedures. Conduct feasibility studies and testing new and modified designs. Proactively look for opportunities to improve productivity. Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers. 10% Travel, domestic and international. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics. 7+ years of engineering experience. Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and methodologies. Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills. Strong understanding of industry codes and standards. Preferred
Knowledge of thermal oxidizer systems is a plus. Design experience with rotating equipment and understanding standard/international code. Design experience with ASME VIII pressure vessels code, ASME B31.3 process piping code and pipe stress analysis. Skilled in interpreting P&IDs, datasheets, and vendor drawings related to rotating and static equipment. Experienced in the design, specification, and selection of air coolers, heat exchangers, and fire heaters. A demonstrated track record of technical growth, innovation, and problem‑solving abilities. Working knowledge of most or all the following technical areas including associated software applications: ASME Codes, API standards, design of piping systems and components, pressure vessel detailed design, fitness‑for‑service and remaining life evaluations, design of structural components and fasteners, pressure vessel and piping inspection, testing, fabrication, and construction techniques. Developed computer skills and experience with MS Office, MS Project, CAESAR II, Compress, Nozzle Pro. Civil and/or Structural Engineering experience is plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to multi‑task and work on multiple projects at a time. Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred. Master’s degree is preferred. Compensation
The annual base salary range for this position is $122,000 – $153,000. This salary information serves as a general guideline.
