Pay: $33.17/hr + 1.00/hr CDL Pay (if applicable)
Health and Welfare: $8.90- $11.73/hr up to 40 hours per week
Base Pay Range: $33.17/hr - $33.17/hr
Scope of Work
The Heavy Equipment Operator operates multiple types of heavy equipment in support of base operations.
Responsibilities
- Operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
- Must be able to work 12‑hour shifts during weather events to meet the customer’s mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Operate heavy equipment as required, including but not limited to the following activities in various types of terrain (dirt, snow, etc.): excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials.
- Perform various duties such as road patching, dirt hauling, fence repair, remove fallen trees, and support the other shops as needed.
- Read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans.
- Ensure proper operation of equipment by performing regular checks on their functionality.
- Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance.
- Provide preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is safe and operating properly.
- Regularly clean equipment to preserve its quality and functionality.
- Perform minor repairs on equipment issues.
- Report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties.
- As part of the snow removal team, incumbent will perform section stand‑by duties and snow removal operations, including snow plowing, load liquid deicer tanks, apply deicing chemicals to streets, and report usages. Work alternate and extended shift schedules during snow events when necessary.
- Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements
- Class A or B CDL preferred.
- Must have experience operating, but not limited to, dozers, sweepers, bucket trucks, graders, bucket loaders, etc.
- Must have a minimum of five to seven (5‑7) years of related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in a variety of building or utility trades.
- Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.
- Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Must possess the ability to work in a high‑volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co‑workers and the customer.
- Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Perform all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
- Display courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
- Accurately maintain and update records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high‑volume environment with multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, flexible, organized, and detail oriented.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
- Employees will be required to work on top of buildings, in mechanical rooms, outdoors, etc., including carrying ladders and working in small spaces.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Some work requires exposure to low to loud noise, dust, particulates, and high voltage. Snow removal operations involve operating equipment outside to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots.
- Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
