Job Overview

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator supporting operations within a local Naval Facility in Great Lakes, IL. SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 150 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

The pay for this position will be $46/hr. SJS also offers 11 paid federal holidays, 56 hours of sick time accrual, medical, dental, vision, and a variety of additional benefits.

Responsibilities

• Operate gasoline or diesel-powered heavy-duty earth moving or road building equipment with either wheeled or crawler type traction.
• Operate equipment by means of various engine speeds, gear shifting, hydraulic pressure, clutch, brake, and steering controls, manipulating different sets of controls simultaneously to maneuver the vehicle in coordination with working attachments.
• Excavate earth for installation or repair of various underground utility systems (sanitary and storm sewers, water distribution, steam piping, natural gas, high voltage electric) and backfill excavations when complete, restoring the work site to original grade and landscape area.
• Respond to oil spill emergencies as a member of the Facility Spill Response Team; trained to operate spill response equipment and containment and defensive oil and hazardous substance response strategies.
• Work as an Essential employee, required to work regardless of emergency conditions or closure of the Naval Base; also respond to snow emergencies declared by the Director of Transportation or normal plowing operations or other emergencies such as sewer backups, water main breaks, electric outages.

Qualifications

• Experience operating Excavators, Backhoes, Skid Steers, End Loaders, Asphalt Rollers.
• Ability to read blueprints and shoot grades with a Transit for installation of sewer and water piping.
• Ability to read utility blueprints for maintenance and troubleshooting of distribution system deficiencies.
• Position may be assigned to any site or workstation within a 50-mile radius as a condition of employment.
• Extensive knowledge of analog and digital electronics, mechanics, pneumatics, electromechanical devices, hydraulics, thermodynamics, optics, physics, and computer science.
• Possession and maintenance of a state Commercial Driver's License, Class A.
• Successful drug test and thorough background check; background check extends past 7 years in conformance with federal law and DOJ guidelines for military installation access.
