What you’ll do:

  • Transaction & Billing Oversight: Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes, ensure invoices are accurate and timely, reconcile client trust accounts when applicable, and oversee settlement accounting.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets, and variance analysis. Provide insights to leadership on revenue trends and cost drivers.
  • System Integration & Automation: Lead the integration between accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Bill.com, or others) and the firm’s CRM/case management system. Drive automation where possible to reduce manual work.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Implement, document, and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and audit procedures. Work with external auditors or CPA partners to support year‑end audits.
  • Team Leadership & Training: Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff. Establish training, standard operating procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Vendor & Banking Relations: Oversee vendor contracts, vendor payments, credit terms, and banking relationships. Resolve billing disputes or discrepancies as needed.
  • Issue Resolution & Escalation: Serve as the financial go‑to person for internal teams: resolve discrepancies, investigate red flags, and escalate critical financial issues to leadership.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Collaborate in annual budgeting, cash flow projections, and scenario planning. Provide financial modeling support to other teams (e.g., marketing, operations).

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: 5+ years of professional accounting experience, including several years in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment such as a law firm, professional services company, or similar. Proven success managing complex reconciliations, trust accounting, and financial reporting in a multi‑entity or high‑transaction setting.
  • CPA Status: CPA certification is not required, but someone who is actively pursuing CPA credentials or on the path to certification is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online/Desktop and Bill.com, with the ability to manage integrations between accounting systems and CRMs or case management tools. Advanced Excel and data analysis experience preferred.
  • Financial Expertise: Strong understanding of GAAP principles, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Adept at maintaining accuracy under pressure while ensuring compliance with internal controls and external audit requirements.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and supervise accounting or finance staff. Encourages collaboration while holding the team accountable to deadlines and standards of excellence.
  • Analytical & Problem‑Solving Skills: Detail‑oriented with strong critical thinking and data validation abilities. Naturally curious and able to identify discrepancies, inefficiencies, and process gaps.
  • Integrity & Accountability: Highly trustworthy, ethical, and consistent. Understands the importance of financial accuracy in a contingency‑based legal model and treats every transaction with care and precision.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Clear and confident communicator with attorneys, partners, vendors, and external CPA firms. Capable of translating complex financial data into actionable insights for leadership.
