The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute is a national nonprofit continuing the distinguished legacy and lifetime work of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to advance American democracy through multigenerational civics education, civil discourse and civic engagement.
The Institute is currently hiring an Accounting Supervisor to oversee daily financial operations, ensure compliance with regulations, and manage weekly and monthly reporting and annual audit. This role blends technical expertise with team coordination to maintain financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Daily Transactions: Oversee accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, bank reconciliations and manage payroll.
- Lead Month-End and Year-End Closings: Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including journal entries and adjustments.
- Ensure Compliance: Monitor adherence to internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support Audits and Tax Filings: Prepare documentation and assist with internal and external audits, payroll, and tax reporting.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Contribute to budget preparation and financial planning efforts.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years in accounting.
- Skills: Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, leadership, and knowledge of tax-exempt guidelines and GAAP reporting with competency in a variety of business software packages.
- Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Excel.
- Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
- Ability to work additional hours on occasion in support of Institute programs and fundraising events.
- Nonprofit experience preferred and/or interest in working in the nonprofit field.
Job Type: Part-Time (Hybrid – in-person/remote based in Arizona). This role is anticipated to be 20-25 hours per week with a flexible schedule, potential to move to full-time.
