Job Overview
Legal Secretary – County Attorney at Pima County, classified 5881, grade 3, pay range $17.99 – $24.29 per hour.
Essential Functions
- Gather information, prepare legal documents, complete legal forms, correspondence, briefs, opinions, complaints, warrants, affidavits, depositions, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Review new cases and set up interviews between clients, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.
- Review materials, set up files, initiate paperwork.
- Transcribe and prepare legal reports, correspondence, forms such as petitions, jury instructions, disclosures.
- Prioritize trials, set up and maintain calendars of hearings, trials, depositions, and response times to pending litigation.
- Compile statistical data concerning unit operations and prepare reports.
- Prepare motions for continuance, suspension or dismissal through the court system.
- Coordinate work activities with trial teams and divisions.
- Act as liaison for attorney regarding case preparation, discovery and prepare required legal documents.
- Communicate with clients or witnesses to obtain legal information.
- Word process confidential documents, contracts, ordinances, dispositions.
- Review, proofread, edit legal documents for terminology, grammar, punctuation, spelling.
- File and index legal documents in case files.
- Operate office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successful completion of coursework in legal terminology or legal office procedures from an accredited school AND one year of legal clerical experience involving the preparation and processing of legal documents or providing legal clerical support to an attorney.
- Associate’s degree or certificate from an accredited college or technical school in legal secretary may substitute for one year of experience.
- One year with Pima County in a Legal Processing Support or closely‑related position may substitute.
- Relevant education and/or experience may be substituted.
License and Certifications
Valid driver license required at time of application. Valid Arizona driver license required at time of appointment.
Physical/Sensory Requirements
Frequent computer use, observation of details, stationary and mobile office setting. Occasional lifting and carrying of items.
