Medical Secretary I - Pain Management - Anesthesiology

Position Summary
Position works in an area with some patient contact and provides secretarial support and office services related to routine business, administrative and patient care.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists with preparing routine documents such as correspondence, calendars and presentations.
- Assists with arranging divisional meetings and conferences and distributing appropriate staff.
- Provides photocopy and fax services, sorts and distributes mail.
- Works referral work queues and serves as back-up for charge review work queues for pain clinic sites as well as pain psychology.
- Schedules patient appointments, answers patient inquiries, routes patient calls and maintains front desk duties with low patient volume.
- Serves as a liaison between patients, physicians and staff.
- Reschedules patient appointments from clinic that have been altered or closed.
- Scans patient records/referrals into EMR.
- Obtains authorizations for patient visits that require insurance approvals.
- Processes/files documents as needed.
- Maintains office supplies and serves as back-up for other job functions during peak times.
- Complies with HIPAA, OSHA, state and federal standards and participates in quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and/or experience.
- Certifications: None required.
- Work Experience: Secretarial 1 year, Customer Service 1 year.
- Skills: Communication, Computer Literacy, Confidential Data Handling, Decision Making, Medical Offices, Medical Terminology, Microsoft Office, Office Equipment, Organizing, Patient Administration, Working Independently.
Salary Range
USD 17.03 – 24.61 per hour.
