About The LOCKSS Program

The LOCKSS Program is part of the Stanford University Libraries portfolio and makes the award-winning LOCKSS distributed digital preservation software platform, used worldwide by libraries to preserve and provide authoritative access to digital content, including scholarly communications, Web archives, and institutional repositories. It also operates digital preservation networks like the Global LOCKSS Network (GLN), delivers digital preservation services to organizations like the CLOCKSS Archive, and supports other digital preservation initiatives, all powered by the LOCKSS software.

About The Position

The LOCKSS Data Analyst verifies and reports on the content in LOCKSS repositories managed by the Applied Preservation Services (APS) team. The role generates reports to identify and communicate status to internal and external stakeholders in support of content discovery, invoicing and billing, and works with developers to improve tracking and automation.

Core Duties

  • Analyze data output from LOCKSS systems to validate content ingestion and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders, supporting content discovery, invoicing and billing.
  • Identify and select usable data from subtle and complex data patterns; assess and produce relevant, standard or custom information (reports, charts, graphs, and tables) from structured data sources.
  • Utilize fundamental processes and methods to validate data to ensure high-quality products; distribute reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management, and internal end‑users, providing interpretation as needed.
  • Collect, manage, and clean datasets using an extraction and reporting programming language to ensure data integrity.
  • Research and reconcile data discrepancies among various information systems and reports.
  • Collaborate with data managers to define and implement data standards and common data elements for collection.
  • Assist with identifying new data sources and methods to improve collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • May test prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.
  • May lead testing of prototype software and participate in the approval and release process.
  • May oversee or supervise staff in development and implementation of programs or functions.
  • - Other duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience or a combination of education and relevant experience, ideally in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge and demonstrated experience using analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software; ability to collect data using various methods, strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline‑oriented environment; ability to use logic to calculate data; ability to work with data of varying quality and validity; demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements; ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.

Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience using LOCKSS software and LOCKSS database tools to query scholarly content data in a LOCKSS-based preservation network.
  • Demonstrated experience querying data in LOCKSS metadata databases, creating and maintaining Keepers and KBART reports, and utilizing the lockss-rep data reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the preservation of scholarly communications and familiarity with characteristics of electronic scholarly content hosting platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience with LOCKSS-based tools for web harvest and networked file-transfer.
  • Proficiency with Python and shell scripting.
  • Familiarity with Java software development and the use of software repositories and other group software development tools.
  • Excellent project management skills, including ability to test, evaluate, and track diverse sets of content.
  • Ability to recognize patterns between content sets for improved overarching preservation testing and validation.

Physical Requirements

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 10 pounds or less.
  • Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
  • Rarely stand, walk, reach, or work above shoulders and use a telephone.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is $82,468 to $94,000 per annum.
