Sidney Albert Albany JCC
Summary: The General Manager of Wellness and Membership manages membership retention, recruitment and daily operations for the membership department. They plan, direct, coordinate and administer membership and agency relations acquisition, renewal, benefits and promotional programs for members. Also responsible for directing, training, overseeing, and maintaining all aspects of the fitness and wellness programs of the JCC.
Responsibilities
Supervises, trains, and evaluates all staff in the Membership and Fitness Departments
Recruit, supervise, train and evaluate all fitness floor staff, personal trainers, and group exercise instructors
Ensure ongoing training and development of staff, including monthly meetings and mentorship opportunities
Manage a diverse team to ensure job expectations are met through coaching and maintain a culture of accountability
Provide back-up support and on-the-job supervision of staff
In partnership with Director of Finance and Campus Director, develop budgets for Membership and Fitness.
Monitor fiscal performance of department
Produce monthly reports for Board of Directors, and Campus Director as needed
Attend AJCC staff meetings and conduct supervisory sessions with department staff
Coordinate messages for e-blast and other announcements
Suggest new policies and updates to existing policies as related to membership and fitness.
Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory of needed supplies and equipment
Membership
Responsible for attracting new members through advertising, outreach, community involvement and networking
Responsible for retaining existing members by promoting AJCC programs, communicating with members through email, surveys, and reaching out to members at the Center.
Coordinate, manage, track, and evaluate all membership and renewal activities, including new member, renewal, and potential member mailings.
Oversee membership database (Daxko) and ensure the information is kept up-to-date and accurate
Tour, interview, solicit and follow-up on prospective new members
Coordinate and manage all facilities rentals by outside parties
Works effectively with other key JCC management to improve the delivery of comprehensive and coordinated JCC programs and services to members
Follow-up with member complaints and issuesAnalyze membership data and current trends
Develop and implement membership plans for retention of current members and growth of new members
Respond to requests for information from members and other constituents
Fitness
Mentor staff to become well versed personal trainers in the areas of sales, client retention, and injury prevention
Ensure appropriate use and maintenance of fitness centers to facilitate the best member experience. Communication with Facilities Technician and Campus Director regarding any required maintenance, repairs, and/or replacement of equipment
Oversee Sports and Recreation activities in the Center
Create and maintain a group exercise schedule that meets the needs of the members as well as continue to develop new classes for members
Hire and oversee all group exercise instructors, floor staff, and personal trainers
Work cooperatively with outside services to both service and repair equipment as needed
Manage existing and future leases to ensure high quality and safe equipment is provided
Develop, implement, and supervise programs and classes for all ages, including but not limited to: fitness challenges, weight loss programs, and trend-based specialty offerings
Conduct individual evaluations for fitness personnel to establish and monitor department goals
Build and maintain a personal training program that is effective, revenue generating, and meets the needs of our community.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field with a minimum of 4 years progressive experience including supervision of multiple staff OR Master’s degree with 2 years of related experience.
Nationally recognized personal training certification
Proven ability to manage/supervise employees and workflow;
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required;
Knowledge of Daxko and GroupEx Pro preferred
Experience and knowledge of aquatics departments a plus.
Current CPR, AED, and First AID Certifications, or willingness to get them
