Position Responsibilities As Senior Underwriter on our U.S. Commercial investment team, you will:
Identify, analyze, price and negotiate financing in litigation-related opportunities.
Assess and price risks, evaluate litigation budgets and negotiate financing deals from start to finish.
Collaborate with legal, finance and tax teams to structure, model, negotiate and close transactions while minimizing legal and operational risk.
Build strong relationships with law firms and corporations to actively identify financing opportunities.
Monitor ongoing investments, regularly interacting with clients and counsel as litigation proceeds and facilitating successful resolutions.
Represent Burford in external relationships and formal business development activities such as panels and publications.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
6+ years of broad commercial litigation experience at a top‑tier U.S. law firm.
Exposure to antitrust litigation.
Federal clerkship experience.
Pre‑law school professional experience in financial services or relevant academic background.
Substantive experience with expert data analyses, valuation or damages reports.
Licensed to practice law in the U.S.
Strong analytical, commercial and deal‑savvy mindset.
Team player with entrepreneurial drive and excellent communication skills.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $225,000 – $250,000. Annual discretionary bonus and participation in our Restricted Stock Unit program. Competitive health benefits, 401(k) matching and a dynamic “always on” environment.
Location New York City, New York – Manhattan. Role reports to the Managing Director of U.S. Commercial Business.
