Overview Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Perioperative Surgical Technologist Specialty Lead partners with the RN Specialty Coordinator to organize patient care activities and serves as the primary surgical technologist clinical resource to the operating room team in the designated specialty(s). The lead supports the coordination of the surgical specialty, collaborates with physicians and staff, and facilitates the dynamic perioperative services environment. Additionally, the role supports competency‑based experiences for Surgical Technologists and onboarding at Yale New Haven Hospital.

2.1 Encourage and mentor surgical technologists with clinical competencies.
3. Quality and Safety: Accountability / Expectation
3.1 Demonstrate knowledge and implement patient safety and quality improvements for the defined surgical specialty(s).
4. Clinical Care
4.1 Serve as the primary surgeon interface for the designated surgical specialty(s).
5. Financial Management
5.1 Oversight of OR throughput including first case start time and turn‑around time.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Surgical Technology. Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 years surgical technologist experience.
Licensure: Preferred Surgical Technology Certification or attainment within one year of hire.
Special Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills, high customer service, prioritization of departmental and surgical specialty needs, and operational efficiency organization.
Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing, and touch; moving/lifting patients and instruments/equipment. Staffing: 75% clinical assignments, 25% operational assignments.
