Tesla’s Bay Area Prototype Machine Shop is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled CNC Mill Programmer to join the team and contribute to Tesla’s mission. The Prototype Machine Shop Team provides engineers and technicians with complex and critical machined components and assemblies to meet aggressive program objectives.
What You’ll Do
Efficiently program, set up, and run a variety of 3‑axis and 5‑axis CNC mills (GF Mikron, Hermle, DMG, Matsuura, Haas) in a low‑volume, high‑mix workflow.
Work directly with engineers to review designs, project requirements, and provide DFM feedback.
Cut materials, build tooling, design and build fixtures, write, prove, and run programs at the machine, deburr and finish parts, measure and validate them against engineering specifications.
Program and machine complex components to tight tolerances in various materials within tight deadlines.
Proactively track, document, and provide direct feedback with clear communication on design, process, project status, and outcomes to management, engineers, and other machinists.
Identify, present, plan, and implement shop improvements.
Maintain shop equipment and keep the workplace clean and organized.
Perform all assignments safely while adhering to security policies.
What You’ll Bring
10+ years of CNC mill programming experience (Mill‑Turn & EDM experience a plus).
5‑axis programming experience (hyperMILL preferred; training provided for qualified candidates).
Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T.
Ability to learn and operate multiple CNC controls (Heidenhain, Fanuc, Siemens, Haas).
Ability to efficiently program and operate multiple work‑centers simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and present technical information verbally, by email, phone, and other digital platforms.
Positive energy and attitude, with a passion for prototyping and machining.
Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision.
Flexibility to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company.
