Position Purpose
To support researchers in systematic application of implementation science methods in the development and evaluation of their biomedical research projects to accelerate public health impact. The Research Scientist will be a dedicated resource for training and assisting researchers, providing consultation and support to researchers in applying implementation science theories, models and frameworks and using quantitative and qualitative methodologies to promote adoption and sustainment of their research. The Research Scientist will serve as an integral part of the Implementation Research Core in the Dartmouth Center for Implementation Science Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE), working with the guidance of experienced implementation scientists to oversee the day-to-day Core activities, facilitate successful application of implementation science methods to COBRE Research Project Leads' research projects and grant proposals, and serve as liaison to the broad national COBRE/IDeA communities to promote capacity-building resources for applying implementation science in biomedical programs of research.
Key Accountabilities
NOTE: This is a 100% grant funded in-person, on location position.
Scientific Consultation & Support:
Provides scientific consultation and support to researchers in the methodical application of implementation science to their biomedical research projects across the translational research continuum
Provides expertise on the practical application of implementation science theories, models, and frameworks and methods throughout the research process
Supports researchers in development of biomedical interventions to optimize implementation and evaluate implementation outcomes and facilitators and barriers to success
Guides researchers in the use of quantitative and qualitative implementation science methods
Assists with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis in collaboration with COBRE Research Project Leads
Assists COBRE Project Leads with preparation and submission of IRB protocols as needed
Coordinates with Dartmouth faculty and identifies resources to support researchers in leveraging existing Dartmouth expertise in clinical decision support approaches, implementation science, user-centered design, participatory methods, digital assessment and intervention, and data science
Serves as an implementation science resource for the larger Dartmouth and COBRE/IDeA research communities
Collaboration and Coordination:
Works closely with Implementation Research Core faculty and COBRE Research Project Leads to coordinate successful application of implementation science methods to existing and future COBRE research projects
Collaborates with the Administrative and Mentoring Core to ensure consistent, coordinated methodological support for current and future COBRE Research Projects Leads
Advises on the day-to-day administrative and scientific needs of projects and cores
Establishes and maintains collaborative interactions with researchers and internal and external partners to achieve the aims of the Implementation Research Core and the larger COBRE
Coordinates various Implementation Research Core live and online seminars and events
Leverages Dartmouth's interdisciplinary resources (e.g., Center for Technology and Behavioral Health, Design Initiative at Dartmouth) and the COBRE's multidisciplinary team of applied researchers to advance shared goals
Works cooperatively with internal staff and multiple internal and external research partners
Data Collection & Reporting for the Implementation Research Core:
Coordinates and manages a data repository containing targeted implementation-related quantitative and qualitative data sources
Tracks the activities and progress of the Implementation Research Core to ensure that milestones are met in a timely manner and with quality assurance
Prepares reports on the activities and progress of the Implementation Research Core for the COBRE's funding agency and Steering, Advisory, and Evaluation Committees
Performs
other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Position Requirements
Skills & Knowledge:
Training, experience, and interest in implementation science research methods and theories, models, and frameworks.
Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
Comprehensive understanding of rigorous research design, implementation, and analysis.
Strong planning and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively as a team member with appropriate attention to detail.
Strong project management skills and ability to work independently, taking initiative to advance projects.
Ability to use sound judgment when interacting with outside parties.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Proven ability to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of staff, management, and executive leadership.
Ability to prepare reports, presentations, and scientific manuscripts.
Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
Experience:
3 years of experience in implementation science or health services research
Education:
Masters's degree minimum
Preferred Skills
Doctorate degree preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience teaching or mentoring at the graduate/post-graduate level is preferred.
Familiarity and experience with implementation science frameworks preferred, such as Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), Reach, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance, and Sustainment (RE-AIM), Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS), Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC), Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications to Evidence-Based Interventions (FRAME) and implementation strategies (FRAME-IS).
