Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking passionate and dedicated Midwives to join our Maternity team within the Children, Young People and Families Services Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity for both experienced Band 6 Midwives and Newly Qualified Band 5 Midwives to contribute to the delivery of safe, equitable, and personalised maternal and neonatal care. Band 6 Midwives will be offered substantive posts with flexible hours available. Newly Qualified Band 5 Midwives will be offered an 18-month fixed-term contract at 30 hours per week, with full support and development opportunities Please note : Band 6 substantive posts will be prioritised. If these hours are not fulfilled, applications from Band 5 Newly Qualified Midwives will then be considered. Main duties of the job

Work autonomously and collaboratively within acute and community settings. Act as a role model and provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to junior staff and students. Promote informed choice and advocate for women/birthing people. Respond effectively to emergencies and complex clinical situations. You will be responsible for: Clinical Care : Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care for women/birthing people and their babies, including those with complex needs. Communication : Building strong relationships with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Communicating sensitively and effectively, especially in emotionally challenging situations. Leadership & Supervision : Supporting junior colleagues, acting up when required, and contributing to a positive team culture. Safeguarding & Advocacy : Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns, empowering service users to make informed decisions. Quality & Governance : Participating in audits, incident reporting, and service improvement initiatives. Supporting research and evidence-based practice. Operational Duties : Managing resources responsibly, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies and NMC standards. Person Specification

Qualifications

Midwifery NMC registration Educated to Diploma/degree level or above Completed preceptorship development programme with post qualification experience. Safeguarding (level 3) adults and children\'s training Neonatal Life SupportNeonatal and Infant Physical Examination qualification (NIPE) or working towards Experience

Experience of assist instrumental birthsKnowledge and experience to deal appropriately with obstetric emergencies in the absence of medical staff Additional Criteria

Ability to cope within a stressful environment and with emotional women/ birthing people and their families and supporters on a regular basisExcellent communication skills on the telephone, via email, face to face and in written correspondenceIs willing to work in all areas - Community and HospitalUK driving licence and access to car Disclosure and Barring Service Check
