Clinical Teaching Fellow in Obs and Gynae
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to work together as clinical teaching fellow in obstetrics and gynaecology, to join our team.
This is a full time (40 hour PW) Fixed term position, based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
The successful candidate will have full GMC registration and 2nd on call experience ie. registrar level in general obstetrics and gynaecology.
The candidate is expected to have good clinical skills in assessing and identifying sick patients and competency in general obstetrics and gynaecology at ST4+ level (mandatory). Post CCT applicants wishing to expand their clinical/teaching skills are encouraged to apply.
The selected candidates will have several allocated protected sessions each week to gain formal experience and qualification in teaching. This will be under direct supervision of our consultant team. The teaching role will be a minimum of 40 % of the whole post alongside an active part in the on call rota with a frequency of 1:8 or less.
Main duties of the job The post holder will help facilitate the delivery of the University of Bristol and Peninsula undergraduate medical curricula to year 3 and 4 medical students at Musgrove Park Hospital.
In summary the main duties include:
Clinical teaching fellows (CTFs) deliver core curriculum content, act as tutors and are involved with the assessment of medical students, for example in OSCEs.
Acting as a role model and mentor to the medical students.
Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance eg bedside teaching.
Clinical teaching fellow are expected to be able to deliver several types of teaching including induction sessions, small group tutorials, clinical-based history and examination sessions, facilitation of inter-Academy Hub sessions, Bedside teaching, Clinical reasoning skills and simulation based teaching.
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has an active Academy which coordinates medical education for all undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. Teaching rooms include small group tutorial rooms, teaching rooms, clinical teaching rooms and a simulation suite all with full IT facilities including video link to enable the teaching/education process. There is a well-stocked library with full time librarians and excellent IT facilities. There is support for simulation training from the simulation team with access to modern simulation equipment

Job responsibilities This post is suited to an individual who is keen to gain a deeper knowledge and experience in postgraduate education and formal certification for this. It is a well-supported role in a friendly department with multiple sub specialty learning opportunities available and hence is suitable for experienced doctors or trainees including those post CCT.
You will be required to participate in an on-call rota to provide cover for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology patients at ST3+ level. If not on call we may ask you to return for an emergency in exceptional circumstances. The detailed timetable will be confirmed with liaison with the successful candidate.
The number of doctors who are away on leave at any one time will be agreed in line with the with the Trust Policy. During the absence of colleagues on leave, doctors are expected to provide agreed levels of cover.
Where you wish to seek agreement to have External Duties included in your Job Plan, you must notify your clinical manager in advance. Scheduling of such duties will be by agreement between you and your clinical manager.

MBBS or equivalent
Full GMC registration
MRCOG part 1
Full RCOG membership
Experience
Assessment of sick patients and ability to manage common conditions in obstetrics and gynaecology at an ST4+ level
Ability to work at ST4+ level in obstetrics and gynaecology
Resuscitation experience
Independent in ELCS
Teaching of students, junior medical staff and nursing staff.
Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology in UK
