Job Overview The CN identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directing and acting as a resource to other members of the nursing team. The primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to a diversified patient population.
Apply advanced knowledge, experience, and judgment to prioritize clinical situations.
Participate in patient and staff education.
Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for personal practice.
Practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance.
Exercise independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary patient care approaches.

Qualifications
At least 6 months of recent NICU RN experience.
Valid California Registered Nurse license without restriction.
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)/American Heart Association (AHA) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 4 months of hire.
Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
Ability to use medical terminology appropriately.
Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
Commitment to excellence in patient care.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Professional accountability and professionalism.
Adaptability to change.
Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence‑based practice.

Preferred Qualifications
National certification in high‑risk neonatal nursing.
BSN.
UCDH clinical rotation/preceptorship.
Completion of senior preceptorship or internship in a specialty unit.
