Job Profile Groundskeeper
Job Duties This position is responsible for general maintenance of grounds that meet institutional grounds keeping standards. Overtime may be required for snow management & special events.
UWO is now offering sign-on bonuses for new Custodial and Grounds Employees!
Recruitment Bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part-time) will be awarded after successful completion of 180-day Probation Period (6 months)!
Retention Bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part-time) will be awarded after successful completion of 1-year Employment Anniversary!
Key Job Responsibilities
Maintains clean and clear lawns, walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
Constructs lawn and landscaping projects including soil grading, seeding, and sodding
Identifies and acts to remedy plant diseases and insect damage
Implements and monitors chemical and fertilizer programs
Installs, propagates, and maintains the health of new and existing plants and landscape using a variety of vehicles and equipment
Department Grounds
Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications
Ability to perform manual labor including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, twisting and other motions for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation
Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance of their job functions and to communicate openly with supervisors and co-workers, other departments and University staff
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Work experience operating grounds maintenance & snow management equipment
Ability to identify plants, weeds, trees, & shrubs
Safety considerations/precautions and occupational hazards related to grounds maintenance and equipment operation.
Ability to work independently and as a member of the Grounds crew team responsible for University grounds care and maintenance.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent
