Role and Responsibilities The Legal Assistant will report directly to the Senior Corporate Counsel of Dr. Seuss Enterprises and will be responsible for providing legal and administrative support to our legal department.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Contract Management & Legal Operations (60%) Assist with drafting and populating standard legal templates and correspondence; review contracts for accuracy and completeness; support redlining processes and conduct targeted searches for specific contract terms and provisions.
Maintain and manage the corporate contracts queue and other legal support queues.
Ensure accurate entry and storage of contract data across relevant systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather necessary information, reviews, and approvals for contract terms and provisions.
Assist in developing and refining legal department processes for contract intake, review, and lifecycle management, including independent updates to improve efficiency.
Track key deadlines and support legal team members on special projects and initiatives.
Trademark & Brand Protection (25%) Support Senior Corporate Counsel and outside counsel in preparing and filing trademark applications, including daily reviews and communications.
Collaborate with the DSE team to collect trademark use specimens, coordinating with licensees and external partners.
Contribute to global brand protection efforts by reviewing infringement reports and supporting enforcement activities.
Coordinate brand enforcement actions such as trademark oppositions, cease and desist letters, and related matters with internal teams and business partners.
Review designs and DSE documents to ensure accurate and consistent use of company trademarks.
Document & Workflow Support (10%) Manage document flow including signature collection, copying, scanning, and both physical and electronic filing.
Edit and process legal documents with precision, including letters, contract templates, and standard forms.
Handle timely intake of requests and mail, and draft routine correspondence and legal documents.
Corporate Governance & Administrative Support (5%) Assist with corporate governance filings and related tasks.
Provide support on ad‑hoc projects and proactively identify opportunities for process improvement.
Deliver general administrative assistance to the legal team as needed.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
3+ years in a legal support role, preferably in‑house or at a law firm.
Trademark experience, including filings, enforcement, and coordination with counsel.
Contract management skills, including intake, tracking, drafting and populating basic templates, redlining, and lifecycle processes.
Familiarity with legal systems/tools (e.g., CLM platforms, document databases).
Strong document handling: editing, formatting, filing, and signature workflows.
Basic corporate governance knowledge (e.g., filings, compliance tasks).
Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management software.
Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
3+ years of administrative experience in a legal environment.
Education Required Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate is preferred.
Position Location Dr. Seuss Enterprises is based in the Sorrento Valley region of San Diego. The Legal Assistant role requires on‑site presence at the office Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM PT. Fridays are designated for remote work.
