Objective To protect and promote the interests of Farm Bureau members specifically, and agricultural and rural interests in general, as a spokesperson for Michigan agriculture on state issues. To achieve this through the implementation of Farm Bureau policies via state legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities
Assist with the development of policy at the county and state level and disseminate information and training on policy development techniques to Farm Bureau members, committees, and stakeholders.
Assist in conducting statewide, regional, or district policy development meetings for county Farm Bureau leaders.
Research appropriate issues and prepare training materials and information to support policy development.
Coordinate activities of state and county Farm Bureau officers and boards, including the Legislative Committee, staff, public policy committees, and other related groups.
Plan and conduct the MFB Lansing Legislative Seminar.
Implement policies through research, preparation and promotion (or opposition) to legislation and regulation on state issues, working with the Governor, the Michigan Legislature, executive staff, and other government entities.
Review all bills within subject matter introduced for potential impact on agriculture and Farm Bureau policy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in an agriculture related field or public affairs management.
At least two to four years of experience in the public policy arena, with a working knowledge of state legislative and regulatory processes.
Experience with a personal computer.
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to make presentations to a wide range of audiences.
Preferred
Experience in an agriculture related field.
