Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will conduct comprehensive physical and mental health assessments of individuals referred to the INSET program alongside the social worker. They will assess and diagnose mental health conditions, medical issues, and substance use/misuse as necessary. The NP will develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the Social Worker and Peer Team Leader to address the specific needs and challenges of each participant. This includes medication management, therapeutic interventions, and psychoeducation. The NP will need to regularly follow up with participants to track their progress, monitor treatment effectiveness, document accurately, and adjust interventions as needed. The role requires on‑call flexibility.

Qualifications

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on psychiatric health or similar.

National certification as a Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is typically required.

Must hold an active and unrestricted nursing license and New York State licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the psychiatric‑mental health field.

Must have completed all training required to practice without Physician oversight.

Previous experience in mental health nursing or psychiatric settings is highly beneficial.

Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.

Ability to handle psychiatric crises and emergencies with a calm and composed demeanor.

Sensitivity and understanding of diverse patient populations and cultural backgrounds.

Effective time management and organizational skills to handle a caseload of patients and prioritize tasks efficiently.

Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to psychiatric care and patient confidentiality.

An approved background check is required prior to employment.

Vaccination Requirement Selected candidates must be vaccinated against COVID‑19 and have received a booster shot. Proof of completion must be submitted prior to extending a job offer. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons may be requested through Human Resources.

Physical Demands and Work Environment The employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently uses hands or fingers, handles or feels objects, tools, or controls. They may stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. They must occasionally lift or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
