AbelCine is a full-service equipment and technology provider to the broadcast, production, and new media industries. Our Production Services division is seeking freelance technical talent for upcoming projects in cinematic multi‑cam, broadcast, live production and corporate environments.
Role Summaries Technical Manager (TM)
Department‑head role overseeing all technical aspects of a production.
Leads the engineering team (EIC, ENGs, Utilities) and ensures signal distribution, monitoring, and specialty equipment needs are aligned across departments.
Works with production and venues on power, cable management, rigging, and placement to ensure system‑wide functionality.
Identifies and mitigates potential technical issues before production begins.
Engineer in Charge (EIC)
Lead engineer responsible for system configuration and signal distribution.
Sets up and manages routers, signal generators, camera synchronization (Genlock, Timecode), and networked control systems.
Supervises engineering crew in establishing signal flows from cameras to switchers, recorders, and monitoring positions.
Troubleshoots and resolves system‑level issues in high‑pressure production environments.
Video Engineer (E2)
Works under the EIC to install and configure routing/distribution equipment.
Builds and supports video villages for production leads and clients.
Ensures video signals are correctly formatted and delivered to camera and production departments.
Provides technical troubleshooting and signal support across departments.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in live broadcast, cinematic multi‑cam, or event production (TM/EIC level); 2+ years for Video Engineers (E2).
Strong understanding of video signal flow, routing systems, synchronization (Genlock/Timecode), and IP‑based control networks.
Ability to communicate clearly across technical and non‑technical teams.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work under tight deadlines.
Team‑oriented with strong troubleshooting skills and a customer‑service mindset.
Preferred System Experience
Routing & Switchers: Ross Ultrix & Carbonite, Blackmagic Videohub & ATEM, AJA KUMO, Leader, Evertz systems.
Video & Fiber Optics Systems: MultiDyne, SMPTE 311M/304M & ST/LC fiber systems, SDI copper workflows; ST2110 experience a plus.
Signal Processing & Displays: Analog Way, Sony, Planar, LED wall control, Evertz Masterclock.
Robotics & Control: Sony FR7, Agito, MRMC, Spidercam, Ross, Vinten.
Camera Paint & Control: Sony RCP/RMB, Cyanview, Skaarhoj, wireless paint.
Color & Signal control: AJA Colorbox & Frame Sync, LUT Boxes, Livegrade.
Converters: AJA, Lynx Technik, OpenGear.
Comms: 2 & 4‑wire standards, Clearcom, RTS, Riedel.
Tally: Short to ground, wet vs dry, TSL, GPIO incorporation.
Lens & Iris control: CMotion, Arri, Preston, network & serial protocols.
Wireless Video/RF: Teradek, WaveCentral, Mesh IP.
Audio: MADI/Dante, Analog vs AES; audio mixer/console experience a plus.
Software & Workflows: Softron, Livegrade.
Recording: Blackmagic Hyperdeck, AJA Ki Pro, Softron Movie Recorder.
Rack Building / components: Patch cables & patch bays, terminating BNC, RJ45, DB25, etc.
Familiarity with streaming formats, remote workflows, and KVM environments is a plus.
Engagement Details
Freelance / project‑based opportunities.
Day rate ranges:
Technical Manager (TM): $1200 – $1,400/day.
Engineer in Charge (EIC): $1000 – $1200/day.
Video Engineer (E2): $750 – $875/day.
Engagements may include prep, on‑site setup, live production, and strike.
Opportunities available in both studio and on‑location production settings.
Travel may be required.
