– Full Time – 100% – Teamsters Local 2010 – Career Level – Administrative Support – Emeryville, CA – Fully On-Site – Days – 8‑Hour Shift (Mon‑Fri)
Job Summary Responsible for securing financial clearance for patients, providers, and the health system. Works closely with administrative, clinical, and management teams to support practice operations, customer service recovery, and billing clearance functions including authorizations, PAFRs, LOAs, billing, and RFIs. The role involves independent resolution of billing issues in APeX (Epic) to maximize payer reimbursement and RVU charge capture.
Key Responsibilities
Secure financial clearance, authorizations, and billing approvals for outpatient encounters.
Resolve billing and authorization issues in APeX (Epic) independently.
Conduct detailed review of medical record documentation to answer billing/authorization questions.
Manage assigned authority and billing work queues daily to minimize denials.
Maintain routine clerical operations and communications, adhering to UCSF House and Telephone Standards.
Provide excellent customer service and facilitate accurate information flow between clinical and administrative teams.
Work collaboratively across all levels of staff and maintain flexibility amid changing priorities.
Required Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent with four years related experience; or college degree with 6 months related experience.
Successfully passes fingerprinting protocol; eligible for cash collector if applicable.
Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding and proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability to navigate patient record systems.
Ability to analyze situations, prioritize tasks, develop solutions, and work independently.
Excellent customer service and communication skills (telephone and direct).
Basic math skills and strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
Strong written communication skills.
Demonstrated administrative/office coordination skills and medical practice terminology knowledge.
Completion of proficiency checklist within six months of start date, including independent authorization work and use of authorization/certification tables.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in healthcare patient scheduling, insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, or patient financial services.
Prior experience with appointment, ancillary service, or surgical scheduling.
Bi‑lingual or multi‑lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian) strongly preferred.
Experience with EPIC.
Salary Range $31.91 – $45.70 (Hourly Rate)
