About This Position The City of Phoenix Information Technology Services department is seeking a skilled and motivated Cisco Network Engineer to join our Enterprise Network Support Team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the reliability and performance of the city’s network infrastructure by providing on‑site support for Cisco routers, switches, and related hardware across various branch office locations. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with Cisco networking technologies and a strong commitment to ensuring secure, stable, and efficient network operations that support critical city services.
Responsibilities
Perform on‑site troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of Cisco routers, switches, and other network hardware.
Conduct routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure optimal network performance and security.
Respond to network outages and service disruptions in a timely and effective manner.
Collaborate with the enterprise network team to implement configuration changes and support new deployments.
Maintain accurate documentation of network assets, configurations, and incident resolutions.
Assist with network monitoring and performance analysis to proactively identify potential issues.
Ensure compliance with city IT policies, standards, and security protocols.
Provide technical support and guidance to local IT staff at branch locations.
Ideal Candidate
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (e.g., EIGRP, OSPF), and network troubleshooting tools.
Ability to travel to and work at various branch office locations across the City of Phoenix.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently in the field.
Familiarity with network monitoring tools and ticketing systems.
Knowledge of network security best practices and access control.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of responsible experience in technical systems software (database management, telecommunications, and operating systems).

Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
Three years of experience supporting Cisco networking equipment, including routers and switches.
Experience with Cisco IOS and configuration of Layer 2/Layer 3 devices.
Experience working in a large enterprise or government network environment.
Experience supporting Wi‑Fi networks in an enterprise environment.
Experience supporting Voice over IP (VoIP) systems.
Experience working with MPLS network architecture and support.
Experience troubleshooting/monitoring network efficiency.
Certification such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher.
