Department Overview

Motorola's Access Control Division (previously OpenPath, now Avigilon Alta) mission is to improve your workday with smart office technology at your front door. We are looking for candidates who can help us build, scale and innovate as we develop our industry leading platform for access control and office automation. Strong analytical and software skills are a must in order to join our team, and we are particularly seeking candidates with experience and skills in multiple technologies, in order to contribute broadly to our team‑centric approach to product development.

Job Description

This Hardware Test Engineer is responsible for hardware quality of both existing and new products. This position requires significant cross‑functional collaboration with customer support, QA, product management, and software and hardware development groups. The ideal candidate is both disciplined in their approach to engineering and passionate about delivering high‑quality product experiences. This position is based in our Culver City, CA location so the candidate must reside in the Greater Los Angeles Area as you will be required to go into the office 3‑5 days per week.

What you’ll be doing

Transform product requirements and user journeys into rigorous and comprehensive hardware test plans

Work with quality and test engineers to execute hardware test plans and interpret their results

Identify and remediate quality gaps in current products

Develop and maintain the feedback loop between field failures, customer support, engineering, and our manufacturing partners

Apply appropriate statistical control methods (SPC, Cpk) to establish IQC, IPQC, and OQC requirements at our vendors, contract manufacturers, and warehouses

Maintain and establish new KPIs to help understand and manage product quality for the portfolio

Occasional travel to both domestic and international warehouses, vendors, and contract manufacturers

Compile, interpret, and present data to senior leadership

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, etc.)

5+ years of experience working in hardware development, test, and/or product quality

Experience in high‑volume electronics manufacturing and working with contract manufacturers

Fundamental understanding of electronics, firmware, and software development

Experience developing B2B products in regulated markets, including but not limited to life safety, security, medical, and aerospace

Experience working directly with customers and customer‑facing teams

Experience developing high‑reliability and long life‑cycle products

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Target Base Salary Range

$80,000 – $110,000

Basic Requirements

Associate’s Degree

3+ years of experience working in hardware development, test, and/or quality

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position
