Compensation (examples) HVAC / Building Systems Technician I: $50,537.36 – $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 – $35.23 hourly)

HVAC / Building Systems Technician II: $53,569.85 – $77,678.10 annually ($25.75 – $37.34 hourly)

Summary Of Position Under general supervision, the Facilities Maintenance HVAC / Building Systems Technician I is responsible for repairing and maintaining facilities HVAC and electrical systems; follows procedures and processes to achieve end results; performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.

Essential Functions / Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Assist in preventive maintenance of commercial HVAC systems, electrical systems, boilers, and cooling towers; diagnose and repair faulty components; check refrigerant levels; replace filters; recommend equipment replacements as appropriate.

Maintain records of work activities, supplies, and materials used.

Assist in general maintenance and repair of City facilities, including plumbing, HVAC and energy management systems.

Participate in preventive maintenance and minor repairs to energy management systems.

Assist in preparing bid and project specifications for contracted services; coordinate repairs between vendors and City staff; oversee project work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.

Other Job Functions

Determine timing for equipment replacement; read and interpret blueprints and diagrams; recognize design deviations; diagnose defective operations; perform other duties as assigned.

Operate and troubleshoot equipment, tools, and systems; interpret various data and manuals; follow written and diagrammatic instructions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Behaviors

Plan, organize, and manage time / resources; work with minimal supervision.

Technical education, certifications / licenses, and relevant experience in electrical / HVAC maintenance.

Ability to read blueprints, troubleshoot, and repair equipment; work in a stressful environment; build professional relationships; be adaptable to change.

Basic knowledge of MS Word / Excel; ability to learn Work Order and Tracer Summit HVAC Control System; knowledge of electrical codes and energy management systems.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of maintenance / repair experience in commercial HVAC or electrical distribution; or equivalent experience substituting education with demonstrated proficiency.

Conditions Of Employment

On-call work required.

CFC Reclamation and Recycling License Type I and II, and Mobile air conditioning; ACR Technician registration with TDLR; additional certifications may be required on appointment.

Drug screen, background check, and CJIS background check as applicable; Class C Texas Driver's License.

Physical Demands / Work Environment Physical requirements include heavy work with lifting 20–50 pounds regularly, with possible up to 100 pounds; occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; exposure to extreme temperatures, odors, dust, chemicals, and other hazards.
