Over 45 programs enroll almost 6,000 students each academic year, supported by 60 dedicated full‑time faculty and tenured Krieger School faculty who serve as program chairs. Position Overview Adjunct Faculty, MA in Writing – Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Advanced Academic Programs, Johns Hopkins University.
Position Description The AAP division seeks non‑tenure‑track adjunct faculty to teach courses within the MA in Writing program. Classes are offered online, asynchronously in Canvas or in real‑time via Zoom. Applicants should be published fiction and nonfiction writers with extensive experience. The ideal candidate will have published at least one book, possess online teaching experience, and have a demonstrated interest in engaging students from diverse backgrounds. Faculty may teach one or more of the following courses:
Fiction Workshop – 490.660
– Intensive writing and revision workshop requiring submission and critique of short stories or novel chapters.
Nonfiction Workshop – 490.670
– General workshop focusing on factual writing, with peer and instructor critique of essays, articles, or book chapters.
Writing Memoir & Personal Essay Workshop – 490.693
– Specialized workshop on memoir and personal essay; counts as one of the three required for the non‑fiction degree.
Heritage of Literature – Examining the 20th Century – 490.684
– Reading elective exploring historical development of fiction and nonfiction from a craft perspective.
Voice in Fiction and Nonfiction – 490.745
– Cross‑concentration craft elective examining aspects of voice in both fictional and factual writing.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Advanced degree in creative writing, English, or journalism (master’s degree at minimum).
1–3 years of higher‑education teaching experience in fiction or nonfiction classes.
Extensive publication (electronic or print) of original fiction or nonfiction in the popular press, literary journals, and/or book form.
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree in Fiction Writing or a relevant field such as Creative Writing or English.
1–3 years of graduate‑level teaching experience in creative writing.
Online teaching experience.
Familiarity with Canvas.
Background to teach a wide variety of writing courses.
