Job Overview
The current vacancy is in the Carpentry assignment with the Facilities Management Department. This recruitment will also be used to establish a Citywide list to fill future vacancies in other departments.
Key Responsibilities
Perform journey-level work in carpentry and/or painting.
Maintain, repair, alter, and construct fixtures, equipment, and facilities.
Provide lead worker support over a small crew for specific projects.
Use appropriate safety procedures and equipment during assignments.
Work independently with good judgment and initiative in determining methods and procedures for each job or project.
Participate in a yearly rotational 24‑hour call‑out (by assignment).
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of three years of journey-level experience in carpentry or painting.
Completion of a building trades apprenticeship program (or one additional year of related education, training, or work experience can substitute for an apprenticeship).
Valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
Pass a medical evaluation to wear a tight‑fitting respirator (CFR 1910.134) by hire or promotion date and maintain certification.
Pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation before commencing employment.
Special Requirements
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by the hire or promotion date.
Must meet qualifications to wear a tight‑fitting respirator, pass a medical evaluation, and maintain certification (by assignments).
Subjects to pre‑employment or pre‑placement alcohol, drug, and controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.
Preferred/Desirable Qualifications
Two years of experience in a secondary building trade.
Additional Information Substance Abuse Testing is required due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this classification. Individuals shall be subject to pre‑employment or pre‑placement alcohol, drug, and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy and procedures.
