You will serve as the last line of defense for our news coverage, editing from long features to breaking news blogs often in real‑time.
Job Description Position is based in New York City and is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.
As a member of the MSNBC Digital copy desk, you will review, edit, and polish content for MSNBC.com, working closely with reporters, editors, and managers to maintain the brand’s tone and style.
Responsibilities
Lead the copy team as head copy editor, coordinating team shifts and schedules, liaising with other editorial leads and maintaining team training, professional development and editorial standards.
Edit quickly and thoroughly, sometimes after pieces are published.
Engage in productive dialogue with reporters, editors and managers as needed.
Ensure that coverage on MSNBC.com meets the highest editorial standards.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
At least 7 years of experience in daily journalism as a copy editor.
A strong knowledge of AP style.
Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment.
Experience working with politics and/or opinion journalism strongly preferred.
Additional Information The position requires enthusiasm, patience and positive communication skills, and the ability to edit quickly in fast‑breaking situations while understanding style differences between opinion columns, news features, and live blogs.
A collaborative spirit is essential as you work with a diverse staff ranging from industry veterans to early‑career employees.
Salary range: $115,000 – $150,000.
