Job Summary

The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Essential Functions

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies. Properly identify patients using two identifiers and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation and document on appropriate worksheets. Interviews patients for medical history. Reviews electronic medical records to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed. Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to end, including dictated results. Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Records contrast type and amount when requested. Evaluates the technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist as needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes additional reconstructed images or measurements as instructed. Performs basic patient care functions. Notifies appropriate nursing personnel of changes in condition. Initiates life support measures when necessary. Assists in code blue procedures during medical emergencies. Performs MRI scanning and assists physicians during invasive procedures. Maintains sterile technique and follows infection control policies. Obtains medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Adheres to radiation safety standards to protect self, staff, patients and others. Reports malfunctioning equipment to leadership and clinical engineering. Maintains knowledge and skills to work safely in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease. Follows fire and safety procedures and completes required safety training. Operates radiology computer systems to enter orders and document procedures and supplies; documents contrast administration in the medical administration record (MAR). Maintains a neat, organized work area and ensures supplies are stocked; promotes cleanliness in the workplace. Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services with MRI scans. Maintains knowledge of MRI safety requirements for staff and patients around magnetic fields. Physical Requirements

Requires moderate to heavy physical effort including lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting. May involve stretching, bending, twisting, squatting or kneeling. Potential exposure to various physical conditions and need to follow radiation safety guidelines. Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry-eligible program. ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology; ARRT or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire. CPR certification required. Current CPR certification. Pay Range
