HYDROGEOLOGIST/ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST I The general job responsibilities involve conducting hydrogeologic evaluations & modeling, GIS mapping, and interpretations, as well as various environmental field investigations. These investigations may include sampling groundwater, surface water, wastewater, construction aggregate, soil, or other waste streams. You may be required to perform specific field tasks such as Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, drilling oversight, UAS surveys, wetland delineation, stormwater plan inspections, and reporting. Office duties will include preparing data tables, interpreting laboratory and field data, creating maps, writing reports, and presenting findings to project managers through meetings, memos, emails, and presentations. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assisting with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs/subsurface investigations) Providing oversight during soil boring advancements using Geoprobe and drill rig methodologies, monitoring well installation, development, and sampling Collecting monthly water elevation data from groundwater wells and staff gauges, and creating potentiometric surface maps Sampling groundwater using bailers and pumps Performing hydrogeologic modeling with software such as AnAqSim and MODFLOW Sampling aggregate from quarries and conducting material testing Ordering, calibrating, and maintaining field sampling instruments including pH/conductivity/DO meters, water level loggers, and survey units Assisting with wetland delineations following USACE, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana methodologies, and compiling data into maps and reports Writing stormwater pollution prevention plans and spill prevention and control plans (SW3P and SPCC) Performing UAS field surveys and processing RGB and NIR flight data using GIS software such as PIX4D and Global Mapper Researching and compiling geological and environmental information for reports Creating maps and drawings using CAD and GIS software like ArcGIS and AutoCAD Lt Assisting in developing standard operating procedures Supporting the Project Manager in various duties Participating in mine and reclamation planning projects, including attending public hearings or meetings Performing other related duties as required Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering At least one year of experience in scientific data collection and interpretation, including field sampling of soil, groundwater, and surface water Experience with hydrogeologic modeling software such as AnAqSim and MODFLOW OSHA 40-hour certification (training provided if needed) Valid driver’s license with insurable record Strong organizational and communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel High interpersonal skills for sensitive situations Ability to lift objects over 50 lbs Availability for evening meetings in Michigan and Ohio Willingness to travel and stay out of town for several weeks depending on projects Ability to obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate with small UAS rating Ability to obtain Michigan Wetland Training Certificate Participation in professional development and certifications
