Position Overview The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is hiring a full‑time Child Protection Specialist for the Pediatric Resource Center (Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics). The role supports child victims of abuse/neglect and their families through medical and social services.

Duties & Responsibilities

Respond to referral phone calls, obtain intake information, and evaluate case eligibility for services; provide referrals to other community resources when not accepted.

Offer emotional support to children and families during medical evaluation and inpatient stays.

Perform advanced child‑protection work including risk assessment and safety planning.

Identify and assess child‑abuse resources and gather relevant family information.

Serve as an authority and provide expertise to physicians and other professionals.

Provide specialized medical case‑work services to a caseload of 30‑60 children per month, including intake screening, compilation of social history, and data assessment for medical evaluation and safety planning.

Represent the unit on at least one community child‑welfare committee and act as a liaison to selected DCFS offices in the central region.

Build professional relationships with all agencies involved with the Pediatric Resource Center.

Perform related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social or Behavioral Science, or a related Health specialty, with 5 years of relevant experience and significant specialized training in child protective services.

OR Master’s degree in Social or Behavioral Science, or a related Health specialty, with two years of progressively responsible full‑time experience in social services or a medical/clinical setting and acceptable standards of social work practice.

About the Department The Pediatric Resource Center has a 32‑year history of providing evidence‑informed, specialized medical and social services to child victims of abuse and neglect. UICOMP’s Department of Pediatrics collaborates with OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois to deliver comprehensive pediatric care.
