Assistant Professor of Environmental Engineering
Join South Dakota State University as a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This full‑time, 9‑month, benefit‑eligible position will start August 2026.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering and has strong undergraduate and graduate programs, new facilities, and robust external research funding.
Key Responsibilities
Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering with an emphasis on environmental engineering.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students and guide student research.
Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in environmental engineering, with interests in physical and chemical processes for water treatment, emerging contaminants removal, and advanced treatment technologies.
Engage in professional activities and provide service at the department, college, university, and professional levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field with an emphasis on Environmental Engineering completed by the start date.
At least one earned degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or evidence of teaching coursework at an ABET‑accredited program.
Ability or potential to establish an externally funded research program in one or more of the areas of physical and chemical processes for water treatment, emerging contaminants removal, and/or advanced treatment technologies.
Ability or potential to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental engineering.
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
