Abdul for Senate is seeking talented candidates to work as a Research & Policy Assistant for the 2026 election cycle. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who are committed to our mission of electing Abdul El-Sayed as our next U.S. Senator. The Research & Policy Assistant provides in-depth, well-researched insight on legislation, polling, and media. This role is housed in the Communications team, with cross-departmental collaboration expected. The position is based in Ann Arbor, MI with flexibility for remote work and a relocation timeline. This is a full-time position with the Abdul for Senate campaign, and is expected to conclude in August 2026, with potential to extend to November 2026. Lead research for policy-heavy deliverables Draft policy backgrounders and one-pagers Compile states, stories, and data-points for various projects Regularly fact check outgoing materials Work closely with the Rapid Response Manager to monitor developments in the political landscape Collaborate with the Press Assistant on journalist research and briefs Operate as “on-call” for the Communications Department, as well as the Political and Organizing teams as needed Other campaign needs as required Qualifications

Required

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Highly organized, with experience creating and maintaining tracking systems Familiarity with the legislative process and moderate policy knowledge Comfortability fielding requests from many directions at once Must have transportation to attend events as needed Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends Superior written and verbal communication skills Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail Commitment to electing Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation and disability Preferred

Degree in Public Policy or similar field is a plus A minimum of 1 year of work experience in campaigns, government, communications, or a similar field Exceptional Excel skills is a plus Previous experience working in Michigan is a significant plus
