POSITION SUMMARY:
The GI Technologist is a self-motivated individual who is responsible for assisting the professional nurse and/or physician in assuring continuity of care during the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and immediate post-procedure periods of the patient's procedural experience. The Gastrointestinal Technologist supports and contributes to the service excellence mission of Enloe Medical Center and the Gastroenterology/Endoscopy Department.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
One year GI, peri-operative or health related fields involving direct patient care experience
OR
prior experience working in a health care environment utilizing aseptic and sterile technique
Desired:
Two years GI, peri-operative or health related fields
Graduate of school for surgical technologists and/or U.S. military healthcare training
Completion of college course in anatomy/physiology
LICENSES / CERITIFICATION:
Minimum:
Current CPR recognition
Desired:
SGNA GTS Gastroenterology Technician Certification within one year of hire
SGNA AGTS Advanced Gastroenterology Technician Certification within two years of hire
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Skills must demonstrate a professional responsibility, and the ability to work as a team member in providing care to the GI/Endo patient. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public. Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and problem solve efficiently. Must have the ability to work in a demanding environment while remaining calm, efficient and focused. Proficiency in all aspects of identification, care and maintenance of procedural equipment. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
