Position Summary
Worksunder the direction of a supervisor within an assigned area of Chancery Courtto assist Chancellors, other departments of the court, attorneys and civiliansinvolved in litigation within Chancery Court as well as serving to the public.
PayGrade: 46 SalaryCommensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications 1. Six (6) years of appropriate clerical, bookkeeping,data processing or statistical work; AND
2. High school diploma or possess a GED.
3. Courtroom experience preferred.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE ISREQUIRED.
Duties andResponsibilities 1.Examines legal documents submitted to the court foradherence to court or legal procedures.
2. Maintains the system of records and files in ChanceryCourt, including (but not limited to) storage, organization, rotating,transferring, copying, and certifying of court documents.
3. Explains courtroom procedures or forms to requestingparties.
4. Provides information to various state and countyofficials.
5. Receives, maintains, and processes court documents inone or more areas within Chancery Court as assigned by Clerk and Master and/orCAO.
6. As assigned, by Clerk and Master or CAO, trains with andassists manager/supervisor in the following duties: • Prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called, enteringdecisions and continuances into the case management system. • Administers oaths to witnesses, attorneys, and litigants. • Secures information for a Chancellor, contacts attorneysand litigants for court, and instructs parties when to appear in court. • Serves as lead clerk in a courtroom setting. • Explains courtroom procedure to requesting parties. • Maintains and records case dispositions and court ordersand arranges for payment of fees. • Schedules, analyzes, processes, and maintains adoption andappellate reports and records with wide latitude to exercise initiative andindependent judgment. • Verifies all information compiled, analyzed, recorded, andmaintained within adoption and appellate reports and records. • Examines, compiles, and finalizes information on allappeals from Chancery Court. • Works with attorneys in preparing and finalizing appellaterecords. • Copies files for customers, accepts payments, and writereceipts. • Transfers all requested cases to the appropriate requestingentity.
7. Performs special projects or activities as assigned bymanager/supervisor.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned ordirected.
KSAs 1. Knowledge of Chancery local rules, Tennessee Rules ofCivil Procedure, regulations and courtroom procedures as well as electroniccase management system(s).
2. Knowledge of courtroom procedures.
3. Knowledge of various legal instruments issued byChancery Court.
4. Experience with an electronic case management andreporting system.
5. Experience with Microsoft products including Windows,Outlook, Excel and Word is required.
6. Ability to maintain an established system of records andfiles.
7. Ability to deal with the public and co-workers withcourtesy and tact.
8. Ability to compose general correspondence.
9. Ability to work with court officials.
10. Ability to analyze and solve problems and exercise goodjudgment.
11. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely andeffectively, both verbally and in writing.
12. Ability to perform accurate arithmetical computations.
13. Must possess good organizational and communicationskills.
14. Ability to write legibly on legal documents and courtfiles.
15. May require specialized knowledge, skills or abilitiesin specified work functions or areas within Chancery Court.
