Overview

This position is based in our Austin, Texas office.

The IT Manager leads Quarterhill's IT team, overseeing the daily operations and long-term direction of the department. This hands-on leadership role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient delivery of all hardware, software, and network systems supporting our employees.

As a working manager with a small team (approximately five direct reports), the IT Manager combines technical expertise with leadership capability - providing hands-on support, guiding projects, and aligning IT initiatives with business goals. This role is accountable for the performance, security, and integrity of the company's technology infrastructure while maintaining compliance with internal policies and external standards.

Responsibilities

IT Operations and Support

Manage and prioritize day-to-day IT operations, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues. Provide hands-on technical support for hardware, software, and network challenges. Oversee IT asset inventory, lifecycle management, and hardware/software procurement. Drive process improvements to increase uptime, responsiveness, and employee satisfaction. Team Leadership and Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of IT professionals, fostering accountability and growth. Balance hands-on work with leadership responsibilities; model service excellence and problem-solving. Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and promote continuous learning within the team. IT Security and Compliance

Collaborate with the Security Manager to implement and monitor cybersecurity controls. Ensure familiarity with industry security frameworks such as

SOC, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001

- able to discuss principles and apply them in context. Conduct regular audits to identify and address vulnerabilities. Identify and report unauthorized or unmanaged ("Shadow IT") systems. Project Management and IT Strategy

Lead the planning and execution of IT projects on time and within budget. Partner with business leaders to understand technology needs and recommend scalable solutions. Contribute to the development and tracking of IT budgets; identify cost-saving opportunities and reduce waste. Support long-term IT strategy and digital transformation goals. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education :

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Experience :

57+ years of progressive IT experience in IT support and management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience with IT infrastructure, user support, and project delivery in a business environment. Technical Skills :

Strong understanding of networks, servers, and IT hardware. Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud). Knowledge of IT security principles, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management. Experience with security compliance standards (SOC, PCI-DSS, ISO27001 ). Business awareness - understands budgets, cost control, and how IT decisions impact the bottom line. Certifications :

ITIL, CompTIA Network+/Security+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Certified, or other equivalent certifications. Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and business applications. Familiarity with virtualization tools and technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). Behavioral Skill Sets:
