Essential Job Summary

Our Yellow Iron Diesel Technicians/Mechanics perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, primarily including yellow iron machinery, diesel heavy trucks and engines. The Technician or Mechanic is responsible for understanding maintenance and breakdown needs, initiating/assigning necessary repairs, and operating the equipment being repaired. On occasion, the Technician may be on call to assist with emergency breakdowns.

Responsibilities

• Maintain advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment (yellow iron machinery, tractor trailers, forklifts, and other diesel trucks).
• Perform repairs and preventative maintenance services.
• Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisition new parts.
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
• Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software to document part usage and repair time.
• Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
• Collaborate with other yellow iron diesel mechanics; may work on different shifts. No direct reports for this position.
• Assist Senior Technicians with project work.

Requirements And Qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• A valid driver’s license is required; CDL is a plus.
• At least 5 years of experience in related duties.
• Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus.
• Computer diagnostic experience as a diesel technician a plus.
• Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems and diagnostic software (e.g., Premium Tech Tool, Mack, Allison, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, Paccar).
• Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations.
• Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and document entries clearly.
• Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
• Must be able to provide own tools.

Work Environment

• We invest in equipment, and many trucks are less than 2 years old.
• The Technician will primarily work at the Transfer Station located at E. 132nd St in the Bronx, NY, with occasional travel to other sites for parts and emergency breakdowns.
• Potentially hazardous work environment with many moving parts; must be alert to surroundings.
• Only during breakdowns will the position require entry into the transfer station loading/dumping area.
• PPE provided.
• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds; frequent squatting and standing.

Salary Range
Minimum: USD $25.00/Hr.
Maximum: USD $32.00/Hr.
