Senior Financial Consultant – Native American Consulting

Base pay range: $105,000.00/yr – $150,000.00/yr.
About the Position
The Senior Financial Consultant will be a member of the Native American consulting group, delivering fiscal management support services and assisting in developing and maintaining effective fiscal management systems for Native American Tribal clients. The position reports to the Director of Native American Consulting and is responsible for developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of Ulrich non‑investment financial consulting and strategic planning services, which includes policy and procedure development, training, accounting assistance and related fiscal management services. The role is expected to plan and execute consulting assignments with limited supervision.
Travel is required for this position, with each trip ranging from 2–5 days and up to three tribal visits per month.
The position will be located in or around one of our two office locations: Portland, Oregon or Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients in the development and maintenance of fiscal management, fund authorization and related policies and procedures.
- Provide accounting assistance, training and coaching for tribal clients finance staff.
- Assist clients in preparing for and navigating Single Government audits, and develop audit support packages.
- Assist in developing client financial planning material and financial plan updates.
- Assist in the preparation, negotiation and maintenance of client indirect cost rates and contract support claims.
- Maintain client work product files and documentation consistent with company processes.
- Consult on other Native American consulting services offered by Ulrich.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, accounting or economics preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant or other professional accounting designation preferred, not required.
- Five or more years of experience working single audits with the ability to develop and produce financial statements using a trial balance.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience working with tribal governments preferred.
- Strong background and understanding of governmental accounting and the development and preparation of governmental/tribal financial statements.
- Analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends and draw meaningful conclusions.
- High learning agility, with a blend of technical accounting knowledge, business acumen, strong oral and written communication, and excellent presentation skills.
- Excellent consulting skills: ability to advise clients on timely financial matters and build strong client relationships.
- Prior experience and skill in the use of accounting software, and a full understanding of accounting principles, cycles and financial statements.
- Proactive work ethic and ability to work well in a team environment.
