An internship with American Family Insurance is a great opportunity to build your skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10 to 14 week program that starts in mid to late May and ends in August. During your internship, you'll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities. You'll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to an AmFam office location.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00
Compensation Maximum: $39.00

As a Cybersecurity intern, you will gain exposure to both threat response and vulnerability management. You'll assist in investigating active cyber threats, conducting digital forensics, and supporting preventive security measures. This role is ideal for a student passionate about technology and cyber defense, with a strong desire to explore AI-driven solutions and participate in penetration testing projects. You'll report to a Cybersecurity Senior Manager and work alongside others in the department.

Responsibilities
• Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture and structure to support your work.
• Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.
• Assist the team in monitoring, detecting, and responding to active cyber threats.
• Collaborate with vulnerability management specialists to assess and remediate potential security risks.
• Conduct research and investigation into emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
• Utilize AI tools and technologies to enhance threat detection and analysis.
• Participate in penetration testing exercises to evaluate system security and identify weaknesses.
• Document findings, prepare reports, and communicate results to relevant stakeholders.
• Stay current with cybersecurity trends, tools, and best practices.
• Demonstrate strong technical curiosity and investigative skills in all assignments.

Requirements
• Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2026 or later.
• Must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD.
• Major/program must align with internship role.
• Strong interest in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and threat/vulnerability analysis
• Technical curiosity and eagerness to learn new tools and concepts
• Basic understanding of computer networks, operating systems, and security principles
• Analytical and investigative mindset with attention to detail
• Familiarity with AI technologies or willingness to learn how AI is used in cybersecurity
• Ability to conduct research and synthesize information from multiple sources
• Experience or coursework in penetration testing is a plus
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills

Work Location:
This role may be considered for a Full-Time in Office or Hybrid work arrangement based on the selected candidate's location. Work locations for this role include Madison, WI; Boston, MA.
