Senior Electrical Designer

opportunity in

Ogden, UT .

Job Summary Per diem is available for those who qualify. In this role you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project. You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries, solve complex technical issues, and ensure designs comply with all regulations and standards.

This position is for a SmartPlant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DoD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem‑solving abilities, a can‑do attitude, and a desire to innovate designs.

Major Responsibilities

Plan, develop, coordinate, and review design work within a medium‑size electrical design work group on projects of medium size or assignments in support of a global business unit.

Produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope, including design of earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing, ensuring electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

Coordinate and interface as directed with day‑to‑day technical work of electrical engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.

Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.

Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).

Prepare or oversee the preparation of electrical design estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, managing implementation and performance accordingly.

Develop Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Client design guides, appropriate Client Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs) and administrative practices.

Coordinate with client representatives as delegated to obtain approval on phases of work.

Review and approve key electrical engineering drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.

Mentor electrical designers and drafters by providing appropriate on‑the‑job training for their professional development.

Support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements, working with designers and other technical disciplines in a team environment.

Assist less experienced designers (modeling, bill of materials, lighting layouts, grounding, etc.).

Perform calculations using AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts.

Co‑ordinate with systems engineering department to establish and verify design/project requirements.

Produce drawings of interior and exterior layouts, elevation views, raceway design, equipment location, lighting, lightning protection, and grounding plans.

Develop material specifications using SpecsIntact.

Qualifications

Level 1: Requires an AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 10‑12 years of experience or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience without a degree.

Level 2: Requires an AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 13‑15 years of experience or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience without a degree.

Knowledge & application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards.

Experience with an electronic Cable Management System such as SETROUTE.

Strong collaboration skills across disciplines.

Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

Relevant experience includes drawings for nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems.

Hands‑on advanced experience using SmartPlant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively.

Broad knowledge of electrical engineering design principles, schematics, and layouts.

Knowledge of Client Corporate guides and standards.

Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications.

Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely.

Experienced with DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA projects and quality assurance programs such as ISO‑9000.

Other Requirements Must be a United States Citizen.
