Cost Accountant – Manufacturing (Onsite, Northwest Houston Area)
A growing U.S. manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join its plant-level finance team. This role is fully onsite in the Northwest Houston area and plays a key part in supporting plant leadership through detailed cost analysis, financial reporting, and operational insight.
About the Role The Cost Accountant provides cost accounting direction, support, and analysis to plant management—helping plan, organize, and control cost and accounting functions. You’ll analyze variances to budget and prior year, identify trends, and assist leadership in maintaining positive performance trends and corrective actions for negative ones.
Key Responsibilities
Perform standard cost accounting and related duties within a manufacturing environment
Establish, improve, and maintain controls for profit planning, sales forecasts, expense budgets, cost standards, and savings opportunities
Compare and analyze performance against operating plans and communicate material exceptions to management
Monitor project financial progress, computing operating costs and comparing results to budget
Prepare and record month‑end journal entries (Inventory, WIP, COGS, etc.)
Reconcile and adjust various general ledger accounts after month‑end close
Prepare variance analyses comparing actual results to budget and prior year
Present monthly manufacturing financial statements
Lead departmental annual budgets and assist in setting measurable goals with business unit managers
Collect, prepare, and summarize monthly forecast information
Qualifications
Minimum
5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing plant with at least $40M in annual revenue
Experience assisting with month‑end close
