As a core member of the pediatric critical care transport team (rotor wing, ground), the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Paramedic practices with the critical care transport team members and collaborates to facilitate coordination of patient care in the transport environment. The role treats patients and families in real or potential health problems, collaborates under protocols and direct medical oversight, and is accountable to patients, families, peers, and the Program Manager. Patient and family centered care (PFCC) is demonstrated by working with patients and families based on the 4 principles: participation, dignity and respect, information sharing, and collaboration. This includes providing exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups and promoting a positive work environment.

Responsibilities
Provides care utilizing the critical care protocols from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting unit.
Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences, and communicates educational needs to the Pediatric Transport Managers and Service Line Educator.
Practice development/positive impacts.
Hold and maintain certification in the critical care transport field.
Effectively practices as a clinical team member within the Children's ED.
Qualifications EDUCATION:
Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Connecticut required; National Registry preferred. Must comply with State Continuing Education requirements. Pediatric experience preferred. Competencies must be completed within six months of hire.
EXPERIENCE:
3 or more currently active years of experience as field Paramedic/Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic with a recognized EMS pre‑hospital or Specialty Care Transport Provider.
LICENSURE:
National Registered EMT-P licensed in state. FP‑C, CCP‑P or C‑NPT preferred. Specialty certification expected within 12 months of hire. Current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS (or equivalent).
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Central venous catheter care, CPAP/BiPAP, blood product administration, Foley catheter maintenance, supraglottic airway – LMA, medication administration authorized by protocols, medication ordered by LIP, chest tube maintenance, video‑assisted intubation, IO placement, iSTAT, ABG, mechanical ventilation, transvenous pacing, cath lab management, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to enter vehicle unaided, wear seat belt, effective communication, standing 30‑70 % of workday, sitting 0‑10 %, walking 30‑70 %, climbing 0‑10 %, pushing/pulling 0‑70 %, bending/stooping 0‑70 %, lifting 1‑30 % of workday up to 30 lbs independently, up to 250 lbs with assistance. Definite potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
