ARCHIVIST TRAINEE

Job Duties This position learns to oversee the transfer of records into the custody of the State Archives, particularly for digital records. It also learns to provide outreach and guidance on records management issues, improve organization, description, and accessibility of records, and shield digital records in accordance with applicable laws. The position monitors condition of holdings and reports issues to higher‑level archivists.
Learns to provide the public and government officials with guidance on records management issues and record access assistance.
Learns to appraise records for their permanent value; review record documentation and recommend revisions to ensure records are adequately described and retained.
Learns to investigate and document the nature of records to increase the Archives' understanding; helps improve holdings.
Assists with management of the Archives' digital holdings, including appraisal, harvesting, processing, shielding, upload, and software use.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of experience in professional archival work with public records.
Notes
Candidates may substitute academic credit from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours for each year for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute two years of experience in the Archival Assistant series classification for required education and experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Archivist classifications or Archivist specialty codes in the Library and Archives field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in digital records management or in archival setting.
Previous experience appraising government records.
Special Requirements
Employees may be required to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work a rotating shift, and may be required to work Saturdays.
