Job Summary The
Molecular Team Lead
serves as a key leader within the diagnostic laboratory, combining technical excellence with strong leadership and communication skills. This role is central to mentoring and training junior team members, maintaining the highest molecular PCR testing standards, and overseeing operational efficiency. The Team Lead collaborates with Supervisors, Managers, and Medical teams to align molecular laboratory operations with broader organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Molecular team in full compliance with all laboratory and safety protocols.
Oversee
day-to-day operations , including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and adherence to quality standards.
Enforce
Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA)
practices, ensuring reliable and accurate PCR testing results.
Review daily, weekly, and monthly QC charting to identify assay deviations.
Train and mentor
laboratory colleagues in all molecular diagnostics procedures, ensuring consistent testing and reporting accuracy.
Interpret PCR analysis results and assist team members with complex diagnostic challenges.
Manage and maintain laboratory information system (LIS) workflows for accessioning, test ordering, and reporting.
Oversee all molecular instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with
Medical Leadership
to enhance workflow efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain quality outcomes.
Validate new multiplex PCR assays with guidance from the Medical team, including primer/probe design and limit-of-detection analysis.
Perform advanced
problem-solving
for sample triage, instrument issues, and customer complaints.
Ensure compliance with all Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) biosafety requirements.
Stay informed on emerging molecular methods,
assay development , and infectious disease trends.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related science.
3–5 years of PCR testing experience in a high-volume, high-throughput lab.
Proven molecular diagnostics experience in a
BioSafety Level 2
laboratory.
Hands-on experience with
DNA extraction
using Kingfisher magnetic particle separator.
Proficiency with
real-time PCR
platforms, including QuantStudio.
Demonstrated experience in
PCR assay validation .
Nice-to-Have Experience
Prior experience in a leadership or mentorship role within molecular diagnostics.
Familiarity with assay development and molecular trending analytics.
Exposure to Salesforce for issue resolution or lab communication.
Knowledge of Federal/State reportable organisms and compliance practices.
