Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) as an Instructor/Statistician.
Overview The Department of Medical Education seeks an Instructor/Statistician to provide methodological and statistical instruction and to lead the online Biostatistics module. The incumbent will mentor medical students, residents, and faculty in research design, survey analysis, grant writing, data management, and manuscript preparation, and support undergraduate research through the Medical Scholars Program.
Responsibilities
Teach and facilitate data quality control, statistical techniques, and software use in BSOM courses such as Scholarship in Medicine and Advanced Research Methods.
Direct and co‑facilitate the required Biostatistics module and the Summer Medical Student Research Experience.
Provide statistical support to residents, fellows, and faculty in grant writing, study design, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of research results.
Develop or maintain statistical software programs, manage project‑specific databases, and maintain documentation for quality assurance.
Support undergraduate students in the Medical Scholars Program and assist department biostatisticians with special projects.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's degree or higher in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field.
Proficiency with at least one statistical software package (R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, etc.).
One year of relevant experience; graduate‑assistant experience may be considered.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems with minimal oversight.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation abilities.
Organizational and project‑management skills; able to respond to questions across statistical disciplines.
Independent work capability.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in multiple statistical software packages.
Two or more years of experience analyzing data with students, residents, or faculty investigators in medicine or health sciences.
Familiarity with qualitative research methods.
Experience with large datasets.
Experience with survey software such as REDCap or Qualtrics.
Essential Functions and Time Allocation
50% Teaching
Train students, residents, and faculty in data quality control and statistical techniques.
Collaboratively instruct BSOM courses and direct the Biostatistics module.
Co‑facilitate the Summer Medical Student Research Experience and develop additional research‑related instruction.
Provide statistical support to resident and fellow programs to satisfy scholarship requirements.
40% Statistical Support
Assist students, residents, and faculty with research studies as a project‑specific consultant.
Participate in grant writing, data analysis, and presentation of results.
Perform routine and advanced analyses, develop models, and conduct novel method research.
Maintain and document databases and quality‑assurance procedures.
Support undergraduates in the Medical Scholars Program.
10% Other Duties
Additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Working Conditions Office and classroom environment. Remote work arrangements to be determined.
