Job Description We are seeking an organized, professional, and results‑oriented individual to serve as a Child Welfare Specialist. This position provides statewide telephone coverage of a toll‑free number for reports of alleged child abuse and neglect, and performs intake, screening, and reporting duties. It offers an opportunity to help protect children and families across Illinois.
Responsibilities
Provide telephone counseling services or referrals for crisis situations.
Secure and enter accurate information on alleged child abuse/neglect reports into the computer terminal.
Monitor incoming written reports for CPS units.
Complete initial oral reports and subsequent reports related to child welfare services.
Perform additional duties as needed within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Either a master’s degree in social work (or related human services field) plus one year of relevant casework experience, or a bachelor’s degree in social work plus one year of relevant casework experience, or a bachelor’s degree in a related human service field plus two years of relevant casework experience.
Degree must be accredited and approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
Eligibility for up to date background check and ability to pass.
Physical and visual ability to perform duties, and willingness to work mandatory overtime.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a background check.
Must have physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties.
Must be willing to work mandatory overtime.
Education Social work or a related human service field.
Employment Details
Full‑time
Mon‑Fri, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM
Salary: $6,242 – $9,021 per month (anticipated starting salary)
Union position – collective bargaining agreement applies.
