Position Overview As a Principal Engineer, you will apply fundamental engineering principles to design, field assessments, and construction oversight. The position will complete projects for existing clients and contribute, lead, design, and streamline the daily engineering operations to ensure alignment with senior management objectives, while supporting various departments.

Responsibilities

Provide senior technical oversight and expertise on complex proposals and projects.

Examine engineering reports, lot letters, and field recommendations produced by field staff.

Offer recommendations to leadership, mentor other engineers, and guide project managers.

Generate reports, recommendations, and documentation requested by clients.

Conduct site meetings, estimates, and project recommendations for prospective and current clients.

Prepare and update project proposals and technical reports timely.

Collaborate with senior management to improve reporting consistency and efficiency.

Develop and manage projects with new and existing clients, ensuring profitability.

Participate in business development, networking, and marketing.

Review, update, and approve invoices weekly for ongoing projects.

Maintain open communication with senior management, project managers, and colleagues.

Maintain a billable utilization rate of 50%.

Follow all company safety procedures and policies.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.

Professional Engineering license (PE) with ability to obtain additional state licenses.

15+ years of experience in Geotechnical and/or CMT field.

Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.

Knowledge of geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, and soil classifications.

Ability to calculate results from geotechnical/construction materials testing data.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents, reports, correspondence, and memos.

Strong technical writing, proposal, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Effective presentation skills in one‑on‑one and small group settings.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Boring Log, AutoCAD, deep foundation software, slope stability software, laboratory, and settlement software.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong leadership ability and strong attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a high‑pressure environment.

Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, overnight, and travel as needed.

Travel Requirements

Approximately 70% travel in support of business objectives and client engagements, including scheduled and short‑notice travel to job sites, field locations, and regional offices.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dusty and noisy work environments.

Office work with long periods of sitting and computer use.

Capacity to lift or carry up to 50 lbs., stand, walk, drive long distances, and use hands for typing or operating devices.

Repeated bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, and lifting.

Effective hearing and speaking in noisy environments.
