Job Summary
Come join the WM Renewable Energy accounting team at WM! This position is a key participant in the day-to-day activities of the accounting organization. This role will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, with a strong focus on contract review, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and quarterly/monthly financial responsibilities. The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls (SOX), have excellent analytical skills and the ability to lead and mentor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise monthly close activities. Prepare or oversee preparation of income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports.
Organize and schedule all necessary resources required to accomplish activities.
Review and analyze contracts to ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance with internal policies.
Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
Analyze and reconcile financial information and general ledger accounts and other reports.
Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial meetings for discussion and review of financial data/reports.
Prepare and analyze forecasts and projections.
Assist with the maintenance and application of internal controls (SOX).
Train, conduct evaluations, and manage productivity of employees.
Ensure appropriate approvals for expenses for the business.
Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of non-supervisory employees. This includes:
Direct supervision of 2 full-time employees including: Accountants.
Qualifications
A. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Accounting, Business Administration
Experience: 5 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)
Preferred Experience: public accounting, energy industry
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
CPA preferred
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
General accounting, accounts payable, and/or accounts receivable knowledge may be required.
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Must be local to the Houston area, no relocations for this role.

Normal setting for this job is: office setting/hybrid.
