Summary The Optometrist is a medical provider who offers comprehensive vision and eye‑care services. The Optometrist evaluates patients to determine potential vision problems, eye disease or conditions and provides subsequent care when required. The Optometrist works closely with Ophthalmologists to provide a comprehensive eye‑care model that meets all patient needs. This position is located at Ben Taub General Hospital.
Job Duties
Provides integrated, team‑based primary eye care alongside ophthalmologists in our practice.
Performs comprehensive eye exams, diagnoses and manages common ocular conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye.
Prescribes corrective lenses.
Co‑manages pre‑ and post‑operative care.
Works in collaboration with ophthalmologists to triage and manage patients efficiently, ensuring timely referrals of complex cases while contributing to clinical education and research within the academic setting.
Fits medically necessary contact lenses, scleral lenses, eye‑prints, or other devices as prescribed or indicated.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (OD).
Current license as an Optometrist by the Texas Optometry Board.
Preferred Qualifications
Fellowship training.
Experience in a clinical or academic setting with direct patient care.
