Circle
About Us
Circle is building the world’s leading all‑in‑one platform for online communities. We enable creators, coaches, educators, and businesses to bring together their audience with engaging discussions, live streams, events, chat, courses, and payments—all in one place and all under their own brand.
We are a fully remote company with around 200 team members from 30+ countries worldwide. We prioritize high expectations and collaboration across time zones, and we regularly host company off‑sites in beautiful locations around the globe.
About The Role The Applied AI team at Circle is at the forefront of leveraging AI to drive innovation for our customers through transformative applications of large language models (LLMs). We’re looking for a strong full‑stack engineer proficient in web frameworks, backend development, and infrastructure to spearhead the development of full‑stack AI solutions across Circle.
Key technologies include Ruby on Rails, React, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and infrastructure for LLM inference. While AI experience is valued, we care most about an experimentation mindset and the ability to rapidly test ideas, run A/B experiments, and iterate based on production data.
What You’ll Be Doing
Ship full‑stack AI projects end‑to‑end on a Ruby on Rails backend and React frontend.
Design and run experiments (including A/B tests on AI evaluations or other metrics) to validate AI features, measure impact, and guide iteration.
Build and integrate components for AI infrastructure and optimize them for performance and reliability to support production‑level inference.
Improve processes, tools, and systems to scale AI features into production‑ready solutions.
Help us stay up‑to‑date with cutting‑edge AI research, techniques, and tools.
Work closely with Circle’s leaders throughout the feature design process.
Collaborate with designers to create a world‑class user experience.
Foster a bias for action by prioritizing speed of iteration, experimentation, and learning, while maintaining high standards of code quality and user experience.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
5+ years experience as a full‑stack engineer on complex web applications at significant scale (100k+ RPM, 100GB+ databases).
Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, MySQL/PostgreSQL, ReactJS. Deep proficiency in both front‑end and back‑end is highly valued but not strictly required.
Strong experimentation mindset and comfort designing and running A/B tests, measuring results, and iterating quickly.
A desire to work in an environment that values speed of iteration and individual autonomy while embracing accountability and collaboration.
Comfortable in a fast‑paced environment with some ambiguity and learning new technologies as projects evolve.
Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading) at CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.
Strong alignment with Circle’s values (see career page).
Nice to have:
Experience building backend systems and infrastructure for AI‑driven products.
Nice to have:
A track record of working on full‑stack AI projects, including deploying at least one production‑ready LLM use‑case at scale.
Compensation $130,000 - $140,000 USD per year. In addition to equity, benefits and perks, the cash compensation is subject to an annual review and increase on a once‑per‑year basis.
Benefits
Fully remote: work from anywhere in the world.
Autonomy and trust to do your job: we care about outcomes over everything else.
